How Much do Electric Bikes Weigh?

Electric bikes are becoming daily commute vehicles for many and on top of that, they provide dozens of benefits.

But if you’re wondering how much do electric bikes weigh, you’re probably worried about the storage or transportation.

Are eBikes heavy? Some people swear that they’re really heavy while others say that they’re not that heavy at all.

What’s the truth? Keep on reading to find out! I’ll touch on the most important aspects that relate to the eBike weight so you know exactly what to look out for when purchasing your next lightweight eBike!

Are Electric Bikes Heavy?

This is one of the common questions I get asked – and I believe that there’s a myth that all electric bikes are heavy.

Of course, some of the eBikes are heavy, but on the other hand, there are really light electric bikes that won’t feel different than normal bicycles.

But you should also consider that there are standard mountain bikes that can weigh a lot! Therefore, the answer is both yes and no.

There are electric bikes on the heavier side, but there are also eBikes on the lighter side – so if you’re worried about the weight, I recommend finding something closer to the mid-range up to the lighter side.

How Much do Electric Bikes Weigh?

So now that you know that there are both heavy and light electric bikes – how much do they weigh?

On average, the electric bike can weigh about 44 lbs (20 kg). The lighter eBikes weigh between 33 lbs (15 kg) to 39 lbs (18 kg).

However, some eBikes can weigh up to 55 lbs (25 kg).

But of course, the weight of eBikes will depend on the different factors which include the frame design, material, components, accessories, and even use.

Of course, not all eBikes weigh the same so you’ll have to decide on the type of an eBike you like and need – and only then start chasing the lightest eBike on the market (if that’s what you want)!

But believe me, the weight won’t be an issue at all during the rides. However, weight can be an issue for people who will in a flat and will have to carry the eBike up the stairs.

Other than that, no matter how much weight the eBike has, you’ll never feel any struggle when you get the power boost from the motor!

However, I believe that eBike types will have a huge role in the total weight (and even weight distribution), so keep on reading as you’ll find some of the most common/popular eBike types/models below!

Different Types of eBikes

If you already browsed the market, you could notice many different eBike styles and variations.

I believe that the most common eBike types are:

  • Rugged off-road eBikes based on the mountain bike frame/style
  • Compact eBikes
  • Foldable eBikes
  • City eBikes
  • Hunting eBikes

Each one of these types will have its advantages and disadvantages. Unfortunately, weight might not be the biggest advantage of eBikes such as rugged off-road eBikes.

On the other hand, city or compact and foldable eBikes might be one of the lightest eBikes on the market.

After you know exactly what type of eBike would be a good fit for your needs – search for the lightest eBike doesn’t stop there.

The search continues to find a quality eBike manufacturer.

For example, if you have a look at the hunting eBikes industry, some of the best eBikes in the industry are produced by:

  • Rambo
  • Quietkat
  • Bakcou
  • Emojo
  • Rungu
  • Fifield
  • e-Cells

Therefore, this is also something you should take into consideration before doing your research. Instead of only chasing the desired weight, there are many other aspects you should be looking out for.

Hopefully, once you find the “perfect” eBike for your needs, everything will fall into the place! But I highly recommend considering the eBike type when finding out how much do electric bikes weigh.

What is the Lightest eBike?

By now, you understand that not everything is in the weight – and that weight definitely won’t be the thing that will stop you from enjoying the eBikes.

However, you might have your own reasons for wanting the lightest of the lightest eBikes on the market.

Upon doing my research, I consider the Cowboy eBike to be the lightest eBike on the market. It’s built to shed any additional weight and provide a sleek & lightweight design that features a removable battery. It only weighs 37 lbs (16.9 kg).

However, if you’re looking for a compact and foldable eBike, the lightest eBike I came across is the Emojo Lynx Pro which weighs about 55 lbs (24 kg). Even though it’s nowhere near as light as the Cowboy, it comes equipped with additional features such as the rear rack that will provide you with the extra storage or even the ability to haul a cargo trailer behind you.

Also, you won’t ever have to worry about the weight (unless you plan on carrying the eBike on the steps to the highest floor) as the powerful motor will keep your ride straight as an arrow so you won’t ever feel the weight.

Therefore, this is a great example that you might not necessarily need the lightest eBike on the market. Even the eBikes on the heavier side can provide more benefits without weighing you down.

So if you’re worried about riding a heavier eBike – there is nothing you should worry about. When you add the rider’s weight on top of the eBike – the results will vary, but the riding experience will never be any different.

Hopefully, you won’t ever have to worry about finding out how much do electric bikes weigh as this can mislead you from finding the quality eBike that will fit all your needs.

You should definitely consider different types of eBikes but also find out all the features an eBike provides before checking out the weight.

However, if the lightest eBike on the market is what you need – the eBike I’ve mentioned in this post is a pretty good choice.

And if you’re looking for a compact/folding eBike that’s pretty lightweight, you might have a hard time finding one – but Emojo Lynx Pro is a great starting point of your search.

Why are you looking for the lightest eBike?
